Thank you for visiting the "Gateway to the West," here in St. Louis, MO! We've got everything you could possibly want right in America's heartland. And when you're in the mood for some of the best Mexican food in the city, look no further than just around the corner. With so many to choose from, we're happy to share a few of our favorites.
1. Lily's
This family-run eatery serves fresh, traditional Mexican meals and margaritas in a cozy environment. You'll often notice your servers wear a smile, which we appreciate. Everything is homemade, and the owner, Salvador, prides himself on making sure your meal is nothing short of exceptional. Great portions, good prices, and delicious meals await. Please remember to drink responsibly and in moderation. Do not drink and drive. Alcohol is for adults of legal drinking age only.
2. Mariachi's II
For a quaint dining experience, visit this establishment. They serve typical dishes, such as burritos, enchiladas, and fajitas. Sip on a housemade margarita as you make your choice. We suggest the steak tacos, any of the burritos, and the nachos are perfect for sharing with your table as your tasty food is being prepared. Also, enjoy the housemade chips and salsa along with your meal. Tip—don't fill up on those—you'll want room for your yummy dish!
3. Chava's
This establishment is very popular among locals and prepares awesome tacos, burritos, quesadillas, tortas, and more. The dining area is located in a historic bar room, creating an inviting and rustic dining experience. Try the crispy fried tacos, and the beans and rice are outstanding. We love their thin homemade chips and salsa, all of which bursts with flavor.
4. Mission Taco Joint - Historic Soulard
As the name suggests, this eatery is located in one of the city's historic sections. Check them out while you're walking around, shopping, and sightseeing. The quality service and excellent food are worth the trip. We suggest the shrimp or mushroom tacos. They also have late-night happy hour specials that run Friday and Saturday from 10 p.m. to midnight. Grab a taco for $2.50, Tecate can for $2.50, or for $5, a shot and Tecate.
5. Sunny's Cantina
The owners of this restaurant boast that they love nothing more than to treat you like family. They've clearly put a lot of thought into their service and cuisine. Try the carnitas tacos, the chorizo queso, the chicken enchiladas, and top that off with a jalapeno pineapple margarita. Oh, don't forget to try the housemade asada fries, and ask about their burrito of the month. There's a lot more we can brag about, but you get the gist.
