The vehicle is an excellent choice for drivers looking for mid-sized three-row SUVs. In 2020, this model has received a lot of upgrades with extra performance under the hood. If you are thinking of going for a larger SUV, then this may be the vehicle that you need.

Here are some of the top changes that you will appreciate in the Mazda CX-9 2020.

Engine Improvements

The first thing enthusiasts notice about the new 2020 CX-9 model is the increased torque from 310 pound-feet of torque to 320 pound-feet. It was previously producing 250 horsepower with the turbocharged 2.5-liter inline-four engine. However, this new engine now runs in premium fuel and sends 320 pound-feet of torque to the wheels through the standard 6-speed automatic transmission.

With regular fuel, the performance is estimated to be 227 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. All-wheel-drive is optional, and available with all trim levels. The top-spec signature always comes all-wheel-drive.

Improved Acceleration

While the 2020 model weighs roughly the same, it is faster and much easier to control on a straight line. It also shows a 0.2-second improvement since it can accelerate from 0-to-60 mph in 7 seconds. It takes 15.4 seconds to get to 90 mph speed. It is, therefore, quicker than the previous models. In a race to 120 mph, the new model’s acceleration wins by 2 seconds.

Better Performance

With normal driving, it will be difficult for you to notice the low engine speeds. It has a much better thrust, and the engine doesn’t tap out below 5,000 rpm. The 6-speed automatic is nicely tuned and shifts smoothly. It is effective as the default setting and can be surprisingly aggressive in the sport mode. There are also some speed improvements for shifting the gearbox down to a stop. Fuel efficiency has also been improved, as it is barely 1 mph slower than the EPA highway estimate.

You will also appreciate the fact that not much has changed with the chassis. As a result, you enjoy better control and confidence on the road. It has the smoothness and agility of a much smaller car, especially when taking sharp corners. The electrically-assisted steering is precise and keeps the brake panel easy to modulate, yet reassuringly firm.

The 20-inch tires provide a stiff grip and a braking distance of 169-foot from 70 mph. The tires are all-season and allow you to move through any weather condition.

Infotainment System

The 2020 Mazda CX-9’s infotainment touchscreen has improved from 8 to 9 inches for the signature model and 7 inches for the standard model. It merges well with Apple and Android systems to provide entertainment and allow for better synchronization. The center console allows for better navigation and works to ensure the surface feels fresh and new as you would like it.
